Abstract
We developed a method to measure the amounts of antioxidative polyphen
ols and ubiquinones incorporated into the lipid bilayers of liposomes
to estimate their affinities for cell membranes. Results were expresse
d in terms of an ''affinity factor'', calculated by division of the am
ount of compound incorporated by the amount added to the liposomal sol
ution. The results reflected dose-dependence of the biological activit
ies of the compound found in earlier in vitro experiments with mammali
an and bacterial cells.
