A natural saponite was pillared with hydroxy-aluminium, hydroxychromiu
m and hydroxy-chromium-aluminium solutions. The solutions of intercala
tion were characterized by visible spectroscopy, showing the presence
of chromium oligomers. The pillared saponites were characterized by X-
ray diffraction and nitrogen adsorption. The catalytic activity of the
se materials in the deep oxidation of acetone has been investigated. (
