Ultrasonic velocities and densities of sucrose (C12H22O11) have been m
easured in water and its binary mixtures with acetonitrile containing
10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 mole % of AN at 25, 35 and 45 degrees C. Various
parameters such as acoustical impedance (Z), adiabatic compressibilit
y (beta), apparent molal compressibility (phi(K)), relative associatio
n (R A), intermolecular free length (L-f), molar sound velocity (R), s
olvation number (S-n), Wada's constant (W) and surface tension (S-T) h
ave been calculated. These parameters have been studied to throw light
on solute - solvent interactions. The effect of temperature on these
parameters has also been discussed.
