Abstract
Ventricular repolarization was investigated for the first time in 48 m ultiple sclerosis (MS) patients using measurement of QTc interval on s tandard electrocardiographic recordings. The repolarization process wa s prolonged significantly in MS compared to control subjects (P = 0.00 01). This result was confirmed with an animal model of MS, i.e., the e xperimental allergic encephalomyelitis in rat. The contribution of pro longed QT to syncopal attack or sudden cardiac death in MS patients ne ed further investigation. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
