Abstract
Recent structures In the Maghreb are compatible with a stress field do minated by the roughly north-south orientation of sigma(1). Transition from calc-alkaline to alkaline magmatism occurred during the Late Mio cene. It was related to separation of the Maghreb central indenter fro m its western and eastern palls, which experience lateral escape. (C) Academie des sciences/Elsevier, Paris.
