High spin states in the Tl-198 nucleus have been populated via the Tb-
159(S-36,4n) reaction at 165 MeV. Two weakly populated rotational band
s have been observed with properties (energy spacings and dynamic mome
nts of inertia) very similar to those of other superdeformed bands in
the A approximately 190 region. The two bands can be interpreted as si
gnature partners which exhibit some signature splitting for rotational
frequencies HomegaBAR greater-than-or 0.2 MeV. They are interpreted w
ithin the framework of cranked Woods-Saxon calculations as being based
on the proton i13/2(OMEGA=5/2) intruder orbital, in agreement with pa
irs of superdeformed bands seen in neighboring odd TI nuclei.
