Levels in Co-57 have been studied in the region of resolved levels (E
< 5.5 MeV) with measurements of the Fe-57(p, n)Co-57 neutron spectrum
with resolution DELTAE approximately 5 keV. Seventeen previously unkno
wn levels are located. Level density parameters in the continuum regio
n are deduced from thick target measurements of the same reaction and
additional level density information is deduced from Ericson fluctuati
on studies of the reaction Fe-56(p, n)Co-56. A set of level density pa
rameters is found which describes the level density of Co-57 at energi
es up to 14 MeV. Efforts to obtain level density information from the
Fe-56(d, n)Co-57 reaction were unsuccessful, but estimates of the frac
tion of the deuteron absorption cross section corresponding to compoun
d nucleus formation are obtained.
