Two differently processed light fractions of West Siberian petroleum w
ere studied by resonance electron capture negative-ion mass spectromet
ry (REC NIMS) combined with low-voltage positive-ion mass spectrometry
(PIMS). It was found that benzo-and dibenzothiophene S-oxides give th
e most intense signals in REC NIMS. Their concentrations did not excee
d the concentrations of other impurities, but REC NIMS proved to be hi
ghly sensitive to these S-oxides. It was shown that REC NIMS combined
with low-voltage PIMS allow any thiophene S-oxide to be easily determi
ned in petroleum.
