Abstract
Butyllithium is directly added to the solution of polysaccharides in d imethyl sulfoxide. The methylsulfinyl carbanion, as sugar-alkoxide-for ming reagent, is generated in the solution. All the operations are per formed as one-pot reaction. Five polysaccharides from different tradit ional Chinese medicines and four dextrans have been methylatated and s atisfactory results achieved.
