Abstract
Chemical examination of the bark of Couropita guianensis Aubl. furnish es a new ketosteroid, couropitone in addition to beta-amyrin, beta amy rone, beta-amyrin acetate, stigmasterol, ergosta-4,6,8(14), 22-tetraen -3-one, beta-sitosterol and its glyco-side. The structure of couropito ne is established as stigmasta-4,23(E)-dien-3-one 1.
