Hypopituitarism caused by necrosis of the physiologically enlarged pit uitary gland of pregnancy following postpartum haemorrhage was first d escribed by Sheehan (1). Although manifestations of the clinical syndr ome are most often caused by deficiencies of hormones of the anterior pituitary gland, involvement of the posterior lobe of the pituitary gl and although ran has been described (2,3). This is a report of a case of diabetes insipidus developing within 24 hours postpartum in a grand multipara who had an elective lower segment Caesarean section for twi ns.
