A recently erected species of Saxifraga (section Porphyrion) endemic t
o the Picos de Europa (Cordillera Cantabrica) is described and illustr
ated. S. felineri P. Vargas resembles S. aretioides and S. ferdinandi-
coburgi, although the habit and leaf shape are the main characters whi
ch support its identity. The taxonomic relationships of the three spec
ies are discussed, as well as aspects of the distribution and ecology
of S.S. felineri. (C) 1998 The Linnean Society of London.
