Hericium erinaceus is a chinese edible and medicinal fungus. Four subs
trates and MPA (Maltpeptonagar) were tested for effective mycelium gro
wth and fruiting body production of Hericium. The yields of substrates
(fine and crude sawdust of ash and beech, mixed with weat bran) varie
d from 100-300 g/kg substrate (wet weight). Very homogenous results we
re obtained on fine sawdust from beech with weat bran (254.3 g/kg). Th
e strain Amerika reached the best averaged results with 232.4 g/kg, wh
ich equals a biological efficiency of 73.6 %. The greatest number of f
ruiting bodies was yielded from this strain. The mycelia growth on MPA
did not have a correlation with the yield on sawdust-substrates.
