H. Moosmuller, OPTICAL-ABSORPTION IN NITROGEN DUE TO SPONTANEOUS RAMAN-SCATTERING, Journal of the Optical Society of America. B, Optical physics, 11(2), 1994, pp. 286-289
The optical absorption that is due to spontaneous rotational and vibra
tional Raman scattering in molecular nitrogen is calculated as a funct
ion of wavelength and temperature. At a wavelength of 500 nm and stand
ard temperature and pressure, Raman scattering results in an absorptio
n coefficient of 1.67 X 10(-11) cm(-1), approximately five times small
er than the current experimental detection limit.
