Abstract
In aqueous medium, in the presence of a surfactant agent and of cataly tic amounts of ruthenium derivatives, monopersulfate effectively oxidi zes alpha-chlorinated olefins to hydrochloric acid and the appropriate carboxylic acid and/or carbon dioxide, with rates in excess of 100 tu rnover min(-1) at room temperature.
