Steroids 1, 2, 3 containing both hydroxy and ethynyl groups at C(17) a re selectively transformed by reaction with carboxylic acids, catalyse d by [Ru(mu-O2CH)(CO)(2)(PPh(3))](2) complex, into beta-oxopropyl este rs 4, 5, 6 with retention of configuration.
