T. Kohler et M. Thons, AN EXPERIMENTAL-STUDY ON THE THEORY OF RE SISTANCE AND REPRESSION, Zeitschrift fur klinische Psychologie, Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie, 46(3), 1998, pp. 227-232
This study was carried out to test the Freudian concepts of resistance
and repression. Ten subjects were presented a list of 50 word stimuli
with the instruction to tell their very first association. Immediatel
y afterwards and one week later, subjects were examined as to whether
they could remember the associations produced. In line with Freudian c
oncepts, associations to stimuli which were scaled as negative by the
subjects were considered as negative and rook a longer time for produc
tion. Additionally, associations to negative words were more likely to
be forgotten both immediately after production and one week later.
