It has been shown that Cl-35 and(37)Cl chemical shifts and linewidths
can be obtained using lineshape analysis. For a series of chloroorgani
c compounds the positions of the lines in the Cl-35 and Cl-37 NMR spec
tra were determined to an accuracy of 5-10 ppm, while the accuracy of
the linewidths was 10-100 Hz. It has been also found that the ratio of
Cl-35 and Cl-37 linewidths is not constant as expected from the assum
ption that the spin-spin relaxation of Cl-35 and Cl-37 is completely d
etermined by the quadrupole mechanism. From Cl-35 NMR data the D/H ind
uced isotope shift for hydrochloric acid varies from 3.4 to 5.5 ppm, d
epending on its concentration in water. C-13-Cl-35, C-13-Cl-37, F-19-C
l-35, F-19-Cl-37 coupling constants are reported. (C) 1998 Elsevier Sc
