Abstract
The selective functionalization of calix[4]arenes 1 by iodination at t he upper rim in the presence of other functionalities is described. Th e resulting (partly) iodinated calix[4]arenes 2 are good starting mate rials for the preparation of both the corresponding carboxylic ester a nd amino derivatives 3 and 6, respectively.
