Patients with AIDS are particulary susceptible to tuberculosis infecti
on with a high incidence of extrapulmonary disease and surgical compli
cations. Authors describe a 38-year-old male infected with the human i
mmunodeficiency virus who presented intestinal perforation due to myco
bacterium tuberculosis. A resection of jejunum was performed with prim
ary anastomosis. The postoperative course was further compromished by
hepatic failure and the patient died 16 days after the initial surgery
.
