Abstract
Characterization of solid and liquid material carried out by snowmelt runoff over the surface of plowed soils is given for the forest-steppe zone of West Siberia. From 3 to 170 kg of soluble carbon, 2-20 kg of calcium, and 1-4 kg of potassium per hectare are lost from slope soils . The rates of element losses depend on the type of soil and moisture conditions in the fall. The loss of chemical elements results not only in the depletion of the plow layer, but also in the pollution of wate r basins and rivers.
