A. Ueno et al., GUEST-RESPONSIVE EXCIMER FLUORESCENCE OF BETA-CYCLODEXTRIN BEARING A PENDANT GROUP WITH 2 PYRENE MOIETIES, Macromolecular rapid communications, 19(6), 1998, pp. 315-317
beta-Cyclodextrin derivative 1, bearing a group with two pyrene moieti
es, exhibits predominant excimer emission in a 20% DMSO aqueous soluti
on. In spite of the fact that pyrene is too large to be included in th
e beta-cyclodextrin cavity and consequently both pyrene moieties are l
ocated outside the cavity, 1 varies the excimer emission intensity thr
ough the formation of inclusion complexes with guest species, thus act
ing as a chemosensor for molecular recognition.
