An experiment was conducted during rainy season of 1991 and 1992 to st
udy the effect of subabul [Leucaena leucoceohala (Lamk) deWit.] on the
yield of clusterbean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloha (L.) Taubert] and sesam
e (Sesame indicum L.) and on Leucaena itself. Association of Leucaena
adversely affected the grain production of field crops with advancemen
t in the age and canopy. The reduction in grain yield was minimum when
Leucaena was topped at 1.50 m over central leader system, open centre
system and no lopping system. The reduction in pod, seed, fodder and
fuelweed production of Leucaena was minimum under no lopping condition
s compared with open centre system, central leader system and topping
at 1.50 m.
