Ss. Mahal et al., RESPONSE OF TORIA (BRASSICA-CAMPESTRIS SUBSP OLEIFERA VAR TORIA) TO IRRIGATION, NITROGEN AND SULFUR, Indian Journal of Agronomy, 42(4), 1997, pp. 670-674
An experiment was conducted to study the effect of irrigation and rate
s of nitrogen and sulphur on toria [Brassica campestris L. sap. oleife
ra: (Sinsk,) Metzger var. toria] during 1992 and 1993. Irrigations wer
e applied at 50 (I-50) and 70 (I-70)% depletion of available soil mois
ture from 0-90 cm soil depth. The levels of nitrogen and sulphur tried
were 60, 90, 120 Icg N/ha and 0, 50 and 100 kg Siha respectively, The
crop responded significantly up to 980 kg N/ha and 50 kg S/ha during
both the the ears over the control. The significant response to irriga
tion was accrued with I-50 regime, which gave 14.7 q/ha seed yield, Th
e water use and water-use efficiency under 90 kg N, 50 kg S/ha. and I-
50 varied from 30.3 to 31.2 nn and 260.0 to 267.4 kg/ha-cm respectivel
y. The dry-matter accumulation, oil content, oil yield, nitrogen uptak
e and sulphur uptake were also affected Favourably with I-S, 90 kg N a
nd kg S/ha.
