HISTORIC ARTIFACTS AND ANTHROPOGENIC POLLUTION IN ROME

A research program to evaluate the effects of air pollutants on the ou tside of historic and artistic buildings has requested to carry out su rveys in sites with different environmental conditions. For this reaso n, we have selected two areas of the historic centre of Rome. In order to assess the damage caused by the deposition of air pollutants, the ''greying level'' measurements of some monuments selected areas have b een performed and compared with the results obtained with some slabs m ade of the same material (travertine), used as reference samples.
