Many recent publications on lobbying at the European Union level quest
ion the position and role of established Eurogroups which represent bu
siness interests. The federate Eurogroups in particular draw reservati
ons from various observers. At the same time, the advantages of altern
ative formulae far collectively defending and promoting business inter
ests at the European Union level have been outlined. One example is th
e direct membership Euro-association of companies. Another type of col
lective business lobby at the European Union level that could also be
an attractive alternative to relying on Euro-federations is the ad hoc
coalition of companies. This article presents an exploratory case stu
dy in which the latter is analysed.
