A. Kariman et al., EVALUATION OF DETOMIDINE HYDROCHLORIDE, DIAZEPAM AND THIOPENTAL SODIUM COMBINATION ON CARDIOVASCULAR FUNCTION AND HEMODYNAMICS IN SHEEP, Small ruminant research, 29(1), 1998, pp. 43-49
The study was performed on six sheep weighing 30-40 kg to evaluate the
effect of detomidine, diazepam and thiopental sodium on cardiovascula
r function and hemodynamics. The combination was administered I.V. at
the rate of 90.8 +/- 8.21 mu g/kg, 0.54 +/- 0.05 mg/kg and 4.4 +/- 1.0
4 mg/kg, respectively. The effective sedation lasted for 135 +/- 7.9 m
in, which caused significant hypotension. The ECG changes were type I
A-V block in four cases, T-wave elevation in all cases, S-T segment de
pression in three cases and ectopic ventricular beat in two cases. Imm
ediate fall of 48% in MAP and 61% in 5 min was considered the characte
ristic features of cardiovascular effects of these combined compounds.
The PaO2, PaCo2, PvO(2) temperature and hemoglobin changed significan
tly but other parameters remained unchanged. All reflexes except anal
pinch were abolished and there was no response to noise, external stim
uli and pin pricks during the effective period. (C) 1998 Elsevier Scie
