Rm. Hoffman et K. Pasley, THINKING ABOUT THE SEXES - THE RELATION BETWEEN COGNITIONS AND GENDERSTEREOTYPES, The American journal of family therapy, 26(3), 1998, pp. 189-202
Gender stereotypes continue to impose restrictions and limitations on
both women and men. Social learning and social cognition theory provid
e vehicles for better understanding how gender stereotypes develop and
, consequently, how they can be changed. Gender stereotypes are examin
ed within a framework that includes perceptions, attributions, expecta
ncies, assumptions, and standards. Implications for therapy with coupl
es are discussed.
