Abstract
We study the approach to the steady state for the porous medium equati on with absorption under positive, time-independent, Dirichlet boundar y conditions. Special attention is given to the case where the solutio n of the steady-state problem vanishes in an interior region (known as a dead core.) The results are compared to those for the heat equation with absorption.
