Abstract
Infection with HIV leads to AIDS and death in about 90% of patients wi thin ten years, The first generation of anti HIV drugs inhibited withi n ten years, The first generation or anti-HIV drugs inhibited the vira l enzyme reverse transcriptase (RT); but long-term studies have reveal ed side-effects and a high rate of emergence of drug-resistant HIV mut ants, The more recent combination of two similar to 75% of AIDS patien ts benefit, However, increasing numbers anti-RT drugs and a protease i nhibitor appears to be more promising: of treatment failures from toxi city and drug resistant mutants of treatment based on the neutralizati on of HIV with antibody rich plasma from healthy HIV positive individu als, Studies show it can benefit AIDS patients, Here, we suggest that, in combination with anti-HIV drugs, PIT could reduce some of the toxi city of the latter and limit the emergence of drug resistant HIV strai ns. In addition, regular plasma donation seems to be beneficial to the donors.
