L. Jia et al., EFFECT OF BETA-CYCLODEXTRIN AND ORGANIC MODIFIER ON RESOLUTION OF NITRO-POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC-HYDROCARBONS IN MICELLAR ELECTROKINETIC CHROMATOGRAPHY, Analytical letters, 31(8), 1998, pp. 1461-1472
Micellar electrokinetic chromatography with a photodiode array detecto
r has been employed for the separation of nitro-polycyclic aromatic hy
drocarbons, including 2-nitro-fluorene, 9-nitro-anthracene, 3-nitro-fl
uoranthene and 1-nitro-pyrene. Sodium deoxycholate was used as a micel
le-forming reagent. The effects of beta-cyclodextrin and the organic m
odifiers, methanol, acetonitrile and dimethylformamide, on the resolut
ion of the nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were studied. Aceton
itrile and dimethylformamide were useful modifiers to separate highly
hydrophobic nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Structure isomers,
3-nitro-fluoranthene and 1-nitro-pyrene, were not separated using bet
a-cyclodextrin as modifier. The influence of temperature on the resolu
tion of the nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were also investiga
ted.
