Abstract
The acute effects of topical 1% apraclonidine hydrochloride on retinal capillary blood flow in the macula were studied using the blue field entoptoscopic simulation technique. This was done immediately before i nstillation of one drop of 1% apraclonidine hydrochloride and at 60 mi nutes after instillation. We found a 17% increase in velocity of blood flow (P<0.01) and an 11% increase in the density of leukocytes within the macular capillaries (P<0.05) at I hour after instillation of the drug. There was no significant difference in pulsatility of blood flow .
