The synthesis of compounds 2, covalently bridged analogues of 1,6-dith
ienyl hexa-1,3,5-triene 1, is described. A comparative study shows tha
t rigidification leads to a decrease of the oxidation potentials and t
o the stabilization of the oxidized species. An enhancement of pi elec
tron delocalization and an exaltation of the photoluminescence efficie
ncy are also observed.
