During the last 2 decades intensive development work was carried out i
nto organic conductors world-wide. The initial problem encountered in
respect of the processability of organic conductors has only recently
been solved. Following this, industrial applications can now be opened
up for these materials. A commercially available product 3,4-polyethy
lene-dioxythiophene (PEDT), has been introduced which satisfies highly
stringent requirements in terms of its combination of conductivity, s
tability and transparency. One application in which this new polymer c
an be used is in the antistatic treatment of plastics. This article de
scribes treatment of this type, taking the coating of photographic fil
m as an example.
