In order to study the influence of the oxidation state of a conductive
polymer on the electronic properties of its substituents, two monomer
s have been polymerized electrochemically: one of them has an electrop
olymerizable group conjugated with the substituent (N-phenylpyrrole) w
hile the other one has an insulating link between the two functional g
roups( N-benzylpyrrole). The films synthesized were analysed in situ b
y FTIR after polarisation at different potentials. In the case of N-ph
enylpyrrole, the intensities of the infrared absorptions characteristi
c of the substituants depend on the potential applied. For the N-benzy
lpyrrole, we don't observe any evolution of these vibrational bands wi
th the potential applied.
