Abstract
Iodine (or related species) addition to 1,4-dihydropyridinls, with pro perly attached substituents at the nitrogen atom, leads to the corresp onding 3-iodotetrahydlopyridinium ions, which undergo an internal nucl eophilic attack to furnish regio- and stereoselectively iodobi(poly)he terocyclic ring systems in good yields.
