Fp. Chang et Kt. Chiang, OSCILLATORY INSTABILITY ANALYSIS OF BENARD-MARANGONI CONVECTION IN A ROTATING FLUID UNDER A UNIFORM MAGNETIC-FIELD, International journal of heat and mass transfer, 41(17), 1998, pp. 2667-2675
The effects of rotation and magnetic field on the onset of oscillatory
modes of Benard-Marangoni instability in a horizontal fluid layer wit
h a deformably free surface are investigated numerically. The derived
eigenvalue equations are solved using the fourth order Runge-Kutta-Gil
l's method coupled with the Broyden's method. The results show that th
e Crispation number C, associated with the deformation of the upper su
rface, is significant on the Benard-Marangoni instability. The system
is Stabilizing, as the Blot number Bi, the Bond number Bo, the Taylor
number T and the Chandrasekhar number Q increase. The absolute value o
f critical Marangoni number \M-c\ in the (\M-c\,- R)-plane decreases l
inearly with increasing Rayleigh number R. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science L
