The electronic structure and optical absorption spectra of coupled qua
ntum wires InAsxP1-x/InP are studied within the framework of the effec
tive-mass envelope-function theory. The valence subband dispersion, th
e energy levels at the Gamma-point, the squared optical transition mat
rix elements, and the absorption spectra near the band edge are calcul
ated. The coupling effects among heavy hole, light hole, and spin-spli
t-off bands are presented.
