Electroactivity losses of polyaniline films which result after the ano
dic oxidation and the oxidation by the protonated form of superoxide a
nion radical, HO2. were compared. It is shown that overoxidized polyan
iline films behave differently depending on the method of overoxidizin
g in acetonitrile. The reduction of 1,4-benzoquinone and cobaltocenium
perchlorate on the anodically oxidized film revealed that the film do
es not behave as an insulator and takes part in the electron transfer
process. The film which is chemically oxidized by the protonated form
of superoxide anion radical is not involved in the charge transfer and
the electroreduction occurs on the underlying Pt surface which become
s available for electron transfer as a result of the formation of the
pores during the chemical oxidation.
