Abstract
Neutron diffraction measurements on the hexagonal Tb5Sn3 compound, wit h space group P6(3/mem) indicate a 55 K transition to an incommensurat e transverse amplitude modulated structure. The magnetic propagation v ector has a k(z) = 0.528c component and the terbium magnetic moment d irection is parallel to the a-axis of the crystal. The compound presen ts a commensurate antiferromagnetic structure at 1.8 K with an orthohe xagonal enlarged magnetic cell. The moments direction remains parallel to a. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
