Abstract
2-Alkylidene-3,3-dialkyl-1,4-dithianes and their oxathiane analogues w ere prepared from 1,2-diketones by a process involving formation of th e monodithioacetal, transformation to a tertiary alcohol with organome tallic reagents and ultimately 1,2-sulphur migration using methanesulp honyl chloride in pyridine as the activating agent.
