A spectroscopic analysis of light emitted in the 200-600 nm wavelength
range by Kr7+, Kr6+ and Kr5+ ions following 120-keV Kr8+ - Li collisi
ons is performed. Transitions with DELTAn = 0, 1 and 2 in Kr VIII from
n = 6-11 states produced by single electron capture are identified us
ing either ab initio energy level calculations, potential model calcul
ations or atomic energy level data. The production cross sections for
single electron capture into the nl sublevels (n = 8 and 9) are deduce
d from emission cross sections and are discussed by comparisons with t
he results obtained from three-body classical trajectory Monte-Carlo c
alculations in the 1.43-15 keV/amu energy range. Lines in Kr VII and K
r VI are identified respectively as Rydberg transitions 4snl-4sn'l' (n
= 7, 8, 9) and 4s2nl'-4s2n'l' (n = 7, 8).
