Abstract
The resonant coherent excitation (RCE) of surface planar channeled B4 ions from n = 1 to n = 2 on a SnTe (0 0 1) surface is observed at var ious azimuthal angles through the reduction of the B4+ fraction which is caused by the ionization of the excited B4+ ions. The observed reso nance energy agrees with the calculated result except for a systematic shift of about 100 keV. This systematic shift agrees with the energy loss of the surface channeled ions, indicating that the observed RCE o ccurs mainly in the outgoing trajectory. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V .
