I. Orlic et al., L X-RAY-PRODUCTION CROSS-SECTIONS OF MEDIUM Z-ELEMENTS BY HE-4 ION IMPACT, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section B, Beam interactions with materials and atoms, 138, 1998, pp. 184-188
L X-ray production cross sections for 500, 600, 800 and 1000 keV He-4
ions incident upon Ag-47, In-49, Sn-50, Sb-51, Te-52, and Ce-58 target
s are reported. Commercially available evaporated thin metal foils wit
h thicknesses ranging between 45 and 160 mu g/cm(2) were used. The exp
erimental values of L X-ray production cross sections are compared to
the predictions of the first Born and ECPSSR theories. The first Born
approximation overpredicts the experimental values of all measured pro
duction cross sections for all elements and energies. ECPSSR theory un
derpredicts L alpha, L beta and L gamma(1.5) production cross sections
for all elements except for Ce. Discrepancy is clearly larger at lowe
r ion energies. On the other hand L gamma(2.3) is generally in good ag
reement with the ECPSSR theory. Only a very limited number of data for
the same elements and energies as measured in this work are found in
literature and compared with our values. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V
