Abstract
Analysis of chlorine in industrial oil samples by external beam PIXE a nd PIGE is discussed. Chlorine in oil is very difficult to analyze by conventional methods. External beam PIXE-PIGE method is adequate for t he fist simple analysis of a small amount of oil sample, especially fo r determining chlorine content, The detection limits are discussed. Be cause of the presence of sulfur in most industrial oils, PIGE has usua lly better detection limit than PIXE. Several used and unused oils wer e analyzed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
