A reappraisal of tree species available for planting has been necessar
y in many countries due to the need for multipurpose trees in the agri
cultural system. Australian acacias may have a role in contributing to
industrial forestry plantations for timber pulpwood and tannin and fu
elwood and could be incorporated in agroforestry systems. The utilizat
ion of plantation-grown Acacia species for pulp production is describe
d, with suggestions for further investigations, by V. BALODIS and N.
B. CLARK from CSIRO Forestry and Forest Products.
