A novel fiber-optic interference method called fiber-optic Moire inter
ferometry has been developed and demonstrated. Fiber-optic moire inter
ference is based on the special relative positions and the polarizatio
n directions of three HiBi fiber ends. A helium-neon laser and three H
iBi fibers are used to configure a moire: interferometer in our experi
ments. The optical field intensity distribution function of the moire
interference pattern is analyzed and the simulation results as compare
d with experimental interference patterns are given. (C) 1998 Academic
