Over a period of 9 months, anaesthesiologists achieved experience with
postoperative rounds of 3,341 patients after a variety of surgeries.
An inquiry revealed a high level of satisfaction concerning the inform
ation given to the patient before anaesthesia, the efficiency of the s
edative, and the choice of anaesthetic procedure. After operations, pa
tients were mainly found to be suffering from wound pain, sore throat/
hoarseness and nausea/vomiting. Most patients viewed pain therapy or a
ntiemetic therapy to be effective. A second, anonymous enquiry was giv
en to 43 anaesthesiologists who had performed the rounds with a patien
t-questionnaire. It revealed that postoperative anaesthesia-rounds are
generally useful, but the inquiry is too time consuming and the answe
rs are not completely reliable. Patients seemed to be pleased that the
ir anaesthesiologist came to take care of them and felt reassured havi
ng an anaesthesia-passport in case of adverse events in the course of
anesthesia.
