Abstract
in this paper a short review about the history of oil shale exploratio n in Estonia is presented, Beginning from the 18th century, from the f irst notes written by A. W. Hupel, up to the present day. The numbers characterizing oil shale production within these years are presented, as well as the sizes of active and passive reserves of kukersite oil s hale.
