Abstract
Small clusters of PbS were prepared by the method of chemical precipit ation in a solution from long-chain thiols and lead ions. In the diffe rent steps of precipitation we follow the formation of similar to 1-2 nm clusters with a pronounced quantum size effect and bulk-like PbS re sulting from the aggregation of small clusters. X-ray photoelectron sp ectroscopy and optical spectroscopy show variations in the electronic structure of differently sized clusters. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V . All rights reserved.
